An island of green remains in one area of the Cherry Fire: The Prescott National Forest completed a fuels reduction project in the green area in summer 2001.

A burned hillside with hand line surrounding it: Fire fighters remove fuels on the forest floor, down to mineral soil, to prevent the fire's spread.

The Cherry Fire stopped here when it ran up against a brush-crush project area. Brush crushing is a type of fuels management. In this project area, 1,200 acres of brush were literally crushed in order to reduce the threat that wildland fire posed to the community of Cherry.

Members of the Yavapai County Jeep Posse Search and Rescue unit staff a road closure.
